What is Dermal Filler?

Dermal filler is a sterile gel which consists of stabilised hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance, and it provides volume and fullness to the skin. During our youth, we naturally produce higher levels of hyaluronic acid, keeping our skin full, hydrated and elastic. Using dermal filler restores volume that is lost over time, creates a more defined and younger appearance.

What Can Dermal Fillers Do?

Lip filler and augmentation: To change the contour, improve the fullness and enhance the definition of thinning lips. The process includes strategically adding dermal filler to the lips to obtain the results you wish to achieve.

Nasolabial folds (Nose to mouth lines): Deep nasolabial folds can make you appear older and tired. Dermal fillers are an effective method in the treatment of static folds which are causes by the loss of mid-face volume.

Marionette folds (mouth to chin creases): Drooping around the mouth can be ageing and even make you look tired, angry or even sad. Dermal fillers can be used to replace lost volume in these areas and as a result can give a much more youthful appearance.

Cheek augmentation and sculpting: Dermal fillers can also be used to create more pronounced and defined cheekbones. If you have lost volume with age, causing a more sunken appearance, dermal fillers can be used to create the desired effect.

Chin and jawline definition: This is the ideal treatment if you have concerns about an underdeveloped chin or unbalanced facial proportions. Dermal fillers are a great alternative to define your jawline and improve any asymmetries without the need for intrusive cosmetic surgery.

Smoker’s lines: These lines around your lips are a result of repeated puckering of the lips. Small amounts of dermal filler around the lips can help reduce these lines giving you a smoother and more youthful looking pout.

Temple and forehead definition: Hollow areas can be restored by re-contouring the temple or forehead using dermal filler.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

Dermal fillers on average last between 6 and 12 months, and is dependent upon the area(s) treated and can vary between individuals. Different types of dermal fillers can also vary, with different viscosity, cross-linking and thickness.

If you are interested in any of the above treatments, these can be discussed with Dr Tanya Vyland at your initial consultation.

When Will I See Results?

Results can be seen immediately after treatment. The area that has been treated will be fuller and smoother.
You may notice some swelling or redness, however this will fade over the course of a few days leaving you with your new look.

Does it Hurt?

Topical anaesthetics (Cream) are applied to numb the skin where the treatment is due to take place, and we only use dermal fillers which contain anaesthetics. It may also be possible to numb the area completely with a dental local anaesthetic if requested. This can be discussed during your consultation.
